INDIANAPOLIS -- Right-hander Anastacio Martinez allowed just one run on five hits over eight innings and Toledo used two runs in the top of the ninth to post a 3-1 win over Indianapolis in front of 10,101 Thursday night at Victory Field.

The Mud Hens improve to 53-42 overall and 24-19 on the road, while the Indians fall to 44-51 on the season and and 23-25 at home. Toledo has won seven of the first 12 meetings in this year's head-to-head series.

Martinez (8.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO) needed just 87 pitches to get through eight frames. He allowed only two runners past second base in his longest outing of 2008.

Mud Hens RHP Blaine Neal (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) came on to work a scoreless ninth for his International League-leading 23rd save of the season.

Indianapolis RHP Franklyn German (1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB) dropped to 1-1 with the loss. RHP Jason Davis (7.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO) turned in one of his best efforts of the year, but did not figure in the decision.

Toledo took advantage of two walks and a fielding error to snap a 1-1 tie in the ninth. 3B Mike Hessman opened the frame by drawing a free pass and CF Brent Clevlen reached base when the pitcher mishandled a bunt to the right side of the mound.

DH Erick Almonte followed with an RBI single to plate Hessman. Then, after another sacrifice bunt and walk, 1B Derek Wathan lifted a sacrifice fly to score Clevlen.

The clubs traded early runs and the contest stayed knotted until the ninth.

Almonte reached on a fielder's choice and scored on SS Max Leon's single to right in the Toledo second, while RF Matt Kata doubled to left and trotted to the dish on 2B Josh Wilson's single to center in the Indianapolis third.

Leon and C Max St. Pierre both turned in 2-for-3 efforts, while 1B Steve Pearce led the Tribe by going 2-for-4.

The teams continue their four-game series on Friday at 7:15 p.m. RHP Yorman Bazardo is expected to get the nod for Toledo, while Indianapolis has yet to announce a starter.
