Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC-The Bulls knew they would need to play a crisp game if they were to defeat Francisco Liriano and the Red Wings Thursday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, but a poor start by Ben Hendrickson allowed the game to feel out of reach before Durham came up to bat and Rochester won by a final score of 14-1.
Rochester sent 10 batters to the plate in their six-run first inning, and they tacked on three more in the second to seal Durham's fate early. They added five more runs off the bullpen, pounding a total of 18 hits on the evening. Hendrickson (7-6, 4.52) took the loss in five innings, allowing 12 hits, nine runs-eight earned-and a walk with two strikeouts.
Liriano (7-2, 3.53) was stellar in seven innings, allowing only three hits and a walk while fanning eight Bulls. Durham's only run came when Jon Weber tripled off Carmen Cali in the eighth to score Fernando Perez.
The Bulls will attempt to end their six-game losing streak Friday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park as they attempt to turn the tables on Rochester. Mitch Talbot (7-7, 4.85) will start for Durham and Julio DePaula (1-3, 5.86) will go for the Red Wings. Game time is at 7:05 p.m.
