 Salt Lake Bees

Late Rally Prevents Bees Sweep

July 15, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees came up short in their attempt to sweep a series for the first time this season in a 6-5 loss to the Sacramento River Cats on Sunday afternoon.

Sacramento broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh, as former Bee and Angel Peter Bourjos led off the inning with a triple off of Salt Lake reliever Tyler Stevens. Chris Shaw followed by driving a 1-1 pitch from Stevens (0-2) into right field for an RBI single to drive in the eventual winning run. Salt Lake trailed 3-0 when scored twice in the third inning on a solo homer by Taylor Ward and a run scoring single by Michael Hermosillo.

The Bees would take a 5-3 lead in the fourth, as Nolan Fontana singled to lead off the inning. One out later, Francisco Arcia singled and with two out, Luis Rengifo brought home Fontana with the tying run on a double to right center. After Ward walked to load the bases, Matt Thaiss hit a high pop up that shortstop Orlando Calixte lost in the sun and it dropped onto the infield dirt for a two run single. Sacramento would come back to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Salt Lake starter Griffin Canning went five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Thaiss led the Bees with three hits, including two doubles, and two runs batted in, while Ward added two hits and one RBI.
