Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

PAPILLION, NE - Memphis starter Daniel Poncedeleon tossed his first career complete-game shutout and the Omaha offense failed to break through in the Redbirds 8-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Werner Park.

Poncedeleon (9.0 IP, H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K) retired 18 consecutive Storm Chasers batters at one point, including 18 of the final 19 he faced, in a dominating performance to earn his ninth win of the season. Poncedeleon only allowed three Storm Chasers to reach base all afternoon, including just one hit.

The Memphis offense got things rolling in the second inning when 2B Alex Mejia hit a fly-ball that just cleared the right field fence. DH Max Schrock followed suit in the seventh inning with a two-run long-fly to give the Redbirds a 4-0 advantage. Memphis was able to add to their lead in the ninth thanks to RBI knocks from SS Wilfredo Tovar and RF Tyler O'Neill that pushed them in front 8-0.

Second baseman Ramon Torres was the lone Storm Chasers batter to record a hit with his 14th double of the season in the second inning. Storm Chasers starter Jonathan Dziedzic (6.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 K) suffered his eighth defeat of the season despite keeping Memphis at bay for much of the afternoon.

The Storm Chasers will now head to Nashville for a four-game set against the Sounds. First pitch on Monday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT, with both team's starters yet to be determined.

Following the road trip Omaha will head back home to Werner Park to host the Round Rock Express for a four-game homestand starting on Friday, July 20. First pitch of the series opener is set for 7:05pm.

Tickets are still available all Storm Chasers contests throughout the 2018 season, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
