Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (February 19th) - Trailing 4-0, Wichita (34-14-2) made a furious rally but was unable to get the equalizer and fell to Missouri (28-17-4) Sunday afternoon 4-3 at INTRUST Bank Arena in front of 10,085 fans. RG Flath and Colin Hemingway added goals and Matt Summers extended his point streak with 2 assists. Wichita remains four points ahead of Allen in first place in the Berry Conference as the Americans were idle.
Missouri scored first just four minutes into the game as John-Scott Dickson tipped home a shot from the point on the power play to make it 1-0 Mavericks.
In the second, the Mavericks continued to pick up the pace and scored three consecutive goals in the first 11 minutes of the period. Patrick Schafer scored twice, first at 2:18 and then again at 6:40 to extend the lead to 3-0. Andrew Favot made it 4-0 after he stole the puck at the Wichita line and put it past Thunder goalie Adam Russo. Wichita took some momentum into the locker room as Chris Greene (4) scored with less than five minutes left, putting home a rebound past Mavs starter Charlie Effinger and cut the lead to 4-1.
Colin Hemingway (7) scored with just over nine minutes left in the third to pull Wichita within two. Then RG Flath (14) caught a beautiful pass from behind the Mavericks net and made it 4-3 at 17:34. Down the stretch, Effinger made numerous saves on scrambles and the Thunder couldn't get one past him to tie the game. Missouri closed out the contest, winning 4-3 and stopped a two-game slide as well as a five-winless streak against the Thunder.
Wichita was able to come back from a four-goal deficit against Missouri on November 12th, but couldn't climb all the way back even with the Mavericks. Summers extended his point-scoring streak to four games with two more helpers and Hemingway finished with a goal and an assist.
The Thunder head on the road for the next two, beginning Friday night in Evansville. Wichita returns home a week from today to take on the Mavericks at 5:05 p.m. For tickets, call 755-SEAT, visit the INTRUST Bank Arena box office or online at www.selectaseat.com .
