Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox made a late push in the ninth, but ultimately fell short to the Eugene Emeralds, 7-5, Tuesday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.
After the Emeralds scored two runs in the eighth to take a 7-3 lead, the Sox looked like they would make a comeback in the final frame. Outfielder James Zamarripa hit a ball to right-center that appeared to go off a wood beam behind the wall, but the umpires ruled it off the wall for a double that would plate Janelfry Zorrilla. The Sox scored another run in the inning and would bring the tying run to the plate with two outs, but Eugene's closer Roman Madrid would get out of the jam to earn his league-leading 12th save.
Despite allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits, Sox starter Dylan Unsworth didn't allow any walks to keep his pitch count low and tossed seven innings. The South African-born righty is the only pitcher in the Northwest League to have four outings of seven or more innings.
Eugene scored the first run of the game in the first inning and added three more in the second inning on a three-run homer by Felix Cabrera to take an early 4-0 lead.
First baseman Taylor Ard put the Frogs on the board in the third with a three-run homer over the scoreboard in right-center field. The longball was Ard's 10th of the season to tie teammate Patrick Kivlehan for the team lead.
The AquaSox will look to turn things around Wednesday when they take on the Yakima Bears to kick off a five-game series. Left-hander Scott DeCecco will take the hill for the Frogs, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
Time is running out to catch the Frogs in action with just five games remaining at home in the regular season. For information about tickets, visit the AquaSox stadium store at 3802 Broadway in Everett, call 425-258-3675 or log onto aquasox.com.
