Canadians Blanked In Series Finale Vs Salem-Keizer
August 22, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Volcanoes Stadium - Keizer, Oregon) - A three-run home run off the bat of CF Chuckie Jones was all that the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes needed as they salvaged the finale of a three-game series against the Vancouver Canadians with a 3-0 victory.
Vancouver starter RHP Javier Avendano (6-1) racked up an impressive total of eight strikeouts while allowing just two hits, but did not return for the bottom of the fifth inning because of a high pitch count. With his four shutout frames, the two-time reigning Northwest League Pitcher of the Week lowered his ERA to 1.32.
The Canadians could not get anything going offensively, collecting only six hits (all singles) the entire evening. Vancouver also went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base.
The Volcanoes, meanwhile, also had trouble scoring but got the only runs they would need on the three-run home run by CF Chuckie Jones with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning off reliever RHP Bryan Longpre. It marked only the second inning all series (out of 27 frames) where the Volcanoes managed any runs off C's pitching in a three-game set dominated by pitching.
