Late Rally Falls Short as Roadrunners Fall

EDINBURG, Texas- The Edinburg Roadrunners late rally fell short as they were defeated 11-8 by the Abilene Prairie Dogs Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Trailing 11-5 going into the bottom of the ninth, the Roadrunners scored three runs on four hits before Ray Silva recorded the final out ending the rally and snapping the Edinburg win streak at three.

The Roadrunners (21-14) got the scoring started in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, Carlos Hereaud hit into a double play that allowed Vincent Blue to score making it 1-0.

The Prairie Dogs (15-19) answered back in the top of the second with a couple of homeruns in the inning. Joe Weik started the inning with a solo shot, his eighth of the season. After an RBI sacrifice fly by Case Rigby, Bryan Fogle hit a two-run home run that made it 4-1 Abilene.

After two more runs in the top of the third by Abilene, Edinburg got a run back with an RBI double by Derek Perren that made it 6-2.

Abilene added two runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to push their lead 10-2.

Hereaud added to his league leading RBI total with a two-run single that allowed Blue and Wilmer Pino to score that cut the Prairie Dogs lead to 10-4.

A sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth extended the Abilene lead to 11-4 but the Roadrunners go a sacrifice fly of their own in the bottom of the eighth to make it 11-5.

Edinburg got an RBI double by Hereaud in the bottom of the ninth that pushed his RBI total to 33 on the season. Felix Molina followed with an RBI ground out that allowed Perren to score. With two outs, Del Real hit an RBI single that made it 11-8 but Silva recorded the final out of the game for his third save of the season.

The Roadrunners and Prairie Dogs will play the final game of their four-game series Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Dave Dinelli (1-4) is expected to face Adam Rowe (2-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
