San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- A bases-loaded double by left fielder Cory Patton in the seventh inning led the Colts to a 5-4 win over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Friday night at Foster Field.
Cory Patton worked a full count against WhiteWings' reliever Eddie Dennis, Jr. before belting a three-RBI double that scored catcher Michael Pair, centerfielder Ronnie Gaines and second baseman Jason Diaz. Gaines and Diaz were the tying and go-ahead runs, respectively.
Dennis, Jr. (1-1) was charged with the go-ahead run, and therefore took the loss. He gave up two hits in just 2/3 of an inning for the WhiteWings.
The WhiteWings led 3-0 heading into the fourth, but walks and a fielding error proved costly for Rio Grande Valley in the bottom of the inning.
Diaz and Patton both walked and later scored thanks to an error by second baseman Fidel Hernandez. Right fielder Jamar Walton reached base on the error, and was credited with an RBI.
The WhiteWings tacked on another run in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead, but were held scoreless from that point on.
Colts' starter Mike Hart (3-0) gave up four runs on seven hits in as many innings of work to collect his third consecutive win. Closer Erik Draxton tossed a perfect ninth to earn his ninth save.
The win improves the Colts to an even 17-17, while the loss drops the WhiteWings to 20-14. San Angelo has now won back-to-back games against Rio Grande Valley.
