Augusta Lynx News Release

The Columbia Inferno used a third period power play goal to slip past the Augusta Lynx 4-3 on Friday night.

Columbia opened the scoring when D'Arcy McConvey converted an Eric Boulton pass to make it 1-0. Ken Magowan would respond for the Lynx, however, netting a goal in his first game back with Augusta after a stint with the AHL's Albany River Rats. Brian Passmore set the goal up with a perfect feed into the slot from behind the Inferno net, and Sean Connolly also picked up a helper to make it 1-1. Columbia capped the scoring when Owens found the net on a give and go with Matt Ullwelling for a 2-1 count after 20 minutes of play.

Augusta's power play has worked well against the Inferno this season, and the Lynx continued the trend with a power play goal at 3:12 of the second stanza. Dan Sullivan tipped in Louis Goulet's point feed, with Jamie Johnson also adding support on the goal to tie the game at 2-2. Eric Johansson followed with a goal of his own at 12:31 from Matt Dzieduszycki and Regan Darby for a 3-2 Lynx lead. Columbia would tie the game at 15:34 on a Chanse Fitzpatrick goal to end the middle frame at 3-3.

Columbia would end up with the victory by scoring the only goal of the third period, a power play marker from Derek Eastman at 12:36 from Brad Cook. Despite an empty net late in the game, the Lynx could not force the tie, and dropped to 21-26-7 on the season. Jason Saal made 18 saves in the loss, while Rob McVicar earned the win with 25 stops.

The same two teams will battle tomorrow night at 7:30 pm back in Columbia, followed by a Sunday matinee game for Augusta in Pee Dee against the Pride. Pre-game show kicks off one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
