
Gladiators Fall to Sea Wovles in Shootout, 3-2

The Mississippi Sea Wolves scored goals in the 4th and 5th rounds of the shootout to beat the Gwinnett Gladiators 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum as Mississippi and Gwinnett now share 7th in the American Conference playoff race with 62 points apiece. End to end action including 5 power plays combined didn't produce any goals in the opening period as Mississippi netminder Phillipe Sauve made 16 saves while Gladiators goaltender Sean Fields turned aside 9 Mississippi shots.
Mississippi got on the board first in the second period to pick up the game's first goal of the game. Bates Battaglia took a centering pass in the high slot and ripped a snapshot over the shoulder of Fields for his 2nd goal of the season. Louis Dumont and Anthony Battaglia added the assists on the goal at 4:20 of the second period.
Mike Stathopoulos tied the game at 1-1 with his 9th goal of the season jamming a loose puck underneath Sauve on the power play. Kris Goodjohn and Randy Dagenais picked up the assist on the goal at 5:54 of the second period in a pile up in front of the Mississippi net.
Chris Durno gave the Gladiators a 2-1 lead with a shorthanded tally at 9:55 of the second period stripping a Sea Wolves' defenseman at the Mississippi blue line and beating Sauve on a break away. Durno picked up the shorthanded goal unassisted with a snapshot from the slot beating the netminder to the stick side.
Mississippi tied the game up at 2-2 in the third period as Travis Lisabeth stepped out of the penalty box, a holding the stick call at 2:23 of the third, took an outlet pass and beat Fields on a breakaway. Louis Dumont fed Lisabeth on the breakaway to pick up an assist on the goal at 4:30 of the third period.
Brad Schell tallied the Gladiators only goal in the shootout while Mississippi posted goal in the 4th and 5th round of the shootout to beat the Gladiators in the shootout. Dumont tied the shootout at 1-1 while Austin Miller scored the 5th round goal for the win.
