Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Lancaster, PA) The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and the Lancaster Barnstormers duked out a pitcher's duel through the first two thirds of Saturday's ballgame. In the latter stages, however, the Barnstormers blew the doors of the Crabs, defeating Southern Maryland 10-2.
Southern Maryland had Blake Bivens (L,1-2) on the hill, and the right hander continued a fantastic stint. The former fourth round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Rays allowed four runs (three earned) in seven innings of work. After allowing 28 earned runs in his first 16.1 innings in 2021, he's allowed just three in his last 18.1 innings.
Despite Bivens's solid outing, the Barnstormers' Dominic DiSabatino (W, 8-2) was equally as dominant, allowing just a pair of runs over seven innings. After Lancaster scored a trio in the third, a Kent Blackstone two run shot made it a one run ball game in the fifth.
It was a nail biter, even as the Stormers tacked on an insurance run in the seventh frame. But the eighth inning was a different story, Lancaster combined for a whopping six runs in the frame, breaking the game open.
Late offense and timely hitting throughout handed the Stormers a series equalizing 10-2 victory. Southern Maryland will put Kolton Mahoney on the mound for Sunday's series opener with a first pitch at 1:00 PM.
