Lancaster Stormers News Release
Dominic DiSabatino missed his last start to overcome some arm soreness.
His return to action on Saturday evening brought out his best.
DiSabatino (8-3) fired seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, to defeat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, 10-2, in the middle game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The right-hander, in winning his seventh straight decision, walked two and hit a batter while striking out three.
The only blemish on his night was a two-run homer by Kent Blackstone in the top of the fifth that cut the Lancaster lead to 3-2. He walked Cesar Trejo on four pitches after that, bringing manager Ross Peeples out of the dugout for a mound visit. DiSabatino induced a soft liner back to the box from Michael Baca and turned it into a double play. He was never seriously threatened again.
For most of the night DiSabatino was locked in a pitchers' duel with Southern Maryland's Blake Bivens (1-2). Lancaster struck for three runs in the bottom of the third on their first three hits of the game. Anderson De La Rosa led off with a single to center and took third on a one-out single by Cleuluis Rondon. Caleb Gindl drove in both runners with a double to right center and went to third on a throw home. He later scored when Alejandro De Aza's grounder to first was misplayed by Alex Crosby.
The Barnstormers did not manage another hit until Gindl cranked a solo homer to right with two outs in the seventh to stretch the lead to 4-2.
Lancaster was able to bust the game open in the bottom of the eighth against the Crab bullpen. De Aza drew a one-out walk from Darrel Leiva and went to third on a single by Trayvon Robinson. Southern Maryland manager Stan Cliburn went back to his pen for his lone lefty, Carlos Diaz. Kelly Dugan reached Diaz for an RBI single and a 5-2 lead. De La Rosa walked to load the bases, and pinch hitter LeDarious Clark crushed a grand slam to right center for a 9-2 lead. Jake Hoover added an RBI single later in the 11-batter inning.
The Barnstormers and Blue Crabs conclude the three-game series and Lancaster's nine-game homestand on Sunday afternoon at 1:00. Tommy Shirley (2-1) makes the start for Lancaster against right-hander Kolton Mahoney (5-3). Fans may watch the game on Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel.
NOTES: The game was the first involving the Barnstormers all season in which both starters lasted seven innings...Clark has two homers, a triple, double and walk in his last five pinch-hit appearances...His grand slam is the club's sixth of the year...All eight Lancaster hits were involved in the scoring...DiSabatino fired his fifth quality start...Lancaster will have its 11th chance to break above .500 on the season since they were 11-10 on June 20th...Nick Shumpert went 0-for-3 to end a 10-game hitting streak...Gindl's homer was his first since July 27 when he hit two at West Virginia.
