St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (July 27, 2011) - Adam Frost had a chance to play hero on Tuesday night, but came up empty with the bases loaded, instead leaving it up to Ole Sheldon to win it. On Wednesday night Frost got another chance and this time he came through with a big base hit helping the St. Paul Saints to a 7-3 over the Kansas City T-Bones on Wednesday night at Midway Stadium in front of 6,067.
With the game tied at three in the bottom of the eighth Ronnie Bourquin got it started with a one out walk. Richard Mercado ripped a single to left putting runners at first and second. After a strikeout to Jonathan Van Every, Justin Snyder reached on an infield single to load the bases. That brought Frost to the plate. On Tuesday he struck out in a near identical situation with the bases loaded and one out. This time he lined a single to right scoring two and giving the Saints a 5-3 lead. After Frost stole second Shane Costa hit a smash down the first base line that Kala Ka'aihue made a diving play on and his underhand throw to pitcher Andy Shipman was in time, but Shipman never touched first allowing two runs to score on the infield single and giving the Saints the added insurance runs.
Saints reliever Kyle Foster was tremendous, as he has been all season. He came into the ballgame with the score tied at three in the top of the seventh with one on and one out. After Foster walked Ray Sadler on a close pitch, Keanon Simon took third during the argument. With runners at the corners and one out Foster got Jim Fassano to ground to first and Jason Cooper threw out Simon at the plate. Ka'aihue then flew out to end the inning. After retiring the side in order in the eighth Foster gave up two singles with one out in the ninth, but got Sadler to fly out and Fassano to strike out to end the game. Foster improved to 5-1 with a 1.69 ERA.
With the Saints trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth Frost led off with a single and went to second on a single by Costa. Sheldon knocked in a run with a single to left and Cooper followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at three.
The Saints have Thursday off and head to Shaw Park to take on the Winnipeg Goldeyes in a three game series beginning Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Saints send RHP Matt Long (6-6, 5.36). The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
