Portland Beavers News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - After a slugfest the night before, Portland right-hander Carlton Loewer did his part to slow things down Saturday evening. The Beavers' offense, however, had another thing in mind.

Loewer, outrighted by the San Diego Padres yesterday, pitched six shutout innings in his return and Portland erupted for nine runs over the final two innings on its way to a 10-1 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes.

Loewer (6-2) struck out five and allowed six hits for the Beavers, who scored four in the eighth and added five more in the ninth to improve to 37-33.

Khalil Greene went 4-for-5 to lead the Beavers, who racked up 12 hits.

The Beavers carried a 1-0 lead into the eighth and padded the advantage by sending nine men to the plate against the Albuquerque bullpen. Tagg Bozied had an RBI single, Alex Fernandez added a run-scoring sacrifice fly and the Beavers made it 5-0 on a two-out, two-run error by third baseman Matt Erickson.

Jermaine Clark and Greene hit back-to-back solo home runs to lead off the ninth and Alex Pelaez added a three-run shot to complete the scoring. All three home runs came off reliever Juan Alvarez.

The Isotopes (32-37) avoided the shutout in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out double by Jason Wood that scored Erickson, who led off the inning with a double.

Justin Wayne, who worked seven innings and struck out five, took the loss, despite allowing just one run.

NOTES: The Beavers have yet to lose more than two straight road games this season and are now 22-16 away from PGE Park this season ... Albuquerque came into the game averaging seven runs a game at Isotopes Park this season.
