Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Tex. - The Kansas City Monarchs scored five runs over the final two innings to defeat the Cleburne Railroaders 7-1 on Friday night at The Depot at Cleburne Station.
The game began as a pitcher's duel between Cleburne starter Austin Fairchild (0-2) and Kansas City left-hander Eric Stout (2-1), who traded zeroes through five frames. The Monarchs (6-8) broke the ice in the top of the sixth, as Johnny Field drilled an RBI double and came around to score on a run-scoring single from Jan Hernandez for a 2-0 Monarchs lead.
Tyler Ryan got Cleburne (7-9) back within a run on a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, his second home run in as many nights. That would prove to be the only damage done against Stout, who fired six strong innings with seven strikeouts to pick up his second victory against the Railroaders this season.
The Monarchs blew the game open in the eighth and ninth innings, beginning with a two-run triple from Casey Gillaspie that increased the edge to 4-1. A sacrifice fly from Colin Willis scored Gillaspie, and then Kansas City added two more in the top of the ninth on a pair of wild pitches to complete the scoring.
Fairchild ended up with a tough-luck loss, surrendering just one earned run over six innings with a pair of strikeouts. Railroaders relievers Kyle Chavez and Tyler Wilson both were forced to leave the game early due to injuries.
The Railroaders and Kansas City Monarchs continue the series on Saturday night at 7:06 PM. Right-hander Michael Mariot (2-0, 1.00) gets the start for Cleburne, while the Monarchs will counter with fellow right-hander Justin Shafer (0-1, 13.50).
