Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - Home runs told the offensive story on Friday night. Unfortunately for the Kane County Cougars (8-8), the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (11-5) hit more of them. The Cougars suffered their third straight loss falling 5-3 at Northwestern Medicine Field.
Nick Zammarelli started the home run parade with a solo shot to lead off the 2nd inning, his second homer of the year. The lead was erased when John Silviano blasted a two-run homer off of Cougar starter Josh Tols.
After Nick Santoro ripped his first home run of the year to tie the game in the 7th, Silviano spoiled the party again with another two-run shot in the 8th inning. Luis Roman brought the Cougars within a run on an RBI groundout, but RedHawks' catcher Dylan Kelly took the run right back in the 9th, with an insurance run on a solo shot.
Tols helped out the depleted bullpen with a team-high seven and one-third inning performance, only allowing two runs for his second quality start of the year. Mark Seyler (1-3) suffered the loss after giving up Silviano's second homer.
Fargo-Moorhead used five different pitchers throughout the evening. Former Cougar Brent Jones started the game, but received no decision. Michael Hope (3-0) earned the win and Blake Rogers picked up his team leading fourth save with a scoreless 9th.
The Cougars look to even the series Saturday night. Left-hander Kevin McGovern (3-0, 1.57) will pitch for the RedHawks. First pitch from Northwestern Medicine Field is scheduled for 6:30. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com.
