Moncton Wildcats News Release

A late comeback came up short for the Wildcats in a 6-4 loss to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, Friday at Avenir Centre.

Brooklyn Kalmikov and Vincent Labelle each had a goal and an assist while Francis Langlois and Thomas Darcy also found the net. Thomas Auger chipped in with two assists.

The Sagueneens scored twice late in the first period and led 2-0 after twenty minutes.

They added two more goals early in the second, including a shorthanded marker, and took a 4-0 advantage into the third.

Langlois got Moncton on the board with a power play goal 97 seconds into the third, redirecting a Kalmikov shot from the left circle past the glove of Sagueneens goalie Kevyn Brassard.

Chicooutimi restored its four-goal lead about six minutes later.

The game stayed 5-1 until there were under four minutes left when Darcy had a pass from the right corner deflect off his skate and in to cut Moncton's deficit to three.

It became a two-goal game thirty seconds after that when Kalmikov potted the rebound of a point shot.

With the Wildcats net empty, Labelle made it 5-4 with under two minutes to go, giving Moncton three goals in a 1:27 span.

But Chicoutimi wrapped up the scoring with an empty-netter before the final minute, snapping the Wildcats' five-game winning streak.

Vincent Filion made 13 saves in the loss.
