OTTAWA, ON - A hat trick from Ottawa native Will Bitten helped propel the Hamilton Bulldogs passed the Ottawa 67's Saturday afternoon.

The final score was 9-3, with the majority of the goals coming in the latter half of the contest. It was quite the offensive output for the first-place Bulldogs, who also had a goal and two assists from Brandon Saigeon.

A quick pace to begin the game would be an understatement - the first three shots of the contest were all goals.

Matthew Strome opened the scoring for the Bulldogs, with a break up the right side and a wrist shot that beat Olivier Tremblay on the short side early in the first frame. Hamilton quickly deposited their second goal on a pretty passing play at 4:37.

The 67's came right back the other way and made it a one-goal game. Tye Felhaber did some good work to force a turnover in the corner of the attacking zone and found Carter Robertson. He made it 2-1 just 35 seconds after Hamilton's marker.

However, the celebration was short lived. Hamilton found the net again before the end of the period, forcing coach André Tourigny to call his timeout.

Hamilton had the only goal of the second period and Bitten got the conference-leading Bulldogs a larger lead right off the bat in the third. He scored back-to-back goals at 0:27 and 3:56 respectively, making the score 5-1.

The 67's got some late offence from Robertson and Austen Keating, but it wasn't enough and they dropped the contest by six goals. Ottawa will return to the ice at The Arena at TD Place on Sunday afternoon against Peterborough at 2 p.m.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

Head coach André Tourigny: "I think there were kind of three parts to that game. At the start, we were not physical enough, they were holding on pucks to generate a lot of shots. But in the middle of the game, I really liked the way we played." On the back-breaker... "The fourth goal was the killer goal. Not just the goal, but the way it happened. We had a great scoring chance at one end, we stopped playing, and they came in our zone and scored."

"I don't think the third period reflects the game, and neither does the final score. I won't say we were right there, but we were not as far as it looks."

GAME NOTES: It was just the second and third goals of the season for 67's D Carter Robertson, who came through with his first career multi-goal game in the loss. The Bulldogs came to town with a recent champion - F Robert Thomas won World Junior gold with Team Canada earlier this month. Bulldogs F Marian Studenic also suited up at the WJC for Team Slovakia. 67's F Sam Bitten played against his brother from the Bulldogs, F Will Bitten. Sam is Will's younger brother, being born two years after him (2000). 67's G Olivier Tremblay was pulled after Hamilton's fifth goal - he allowed five goals on 24 shots. The final four goals were scored on 67's G Cedrick Andrée, who stopped 10 shots in relief of Tremblay.
