Mississippi Braves News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - RHP Tanner Gordon put up seven shutout innings in the Mississippi Braves longest start of the season, but the Pensacola Blue Wahoos took advantage of three ninth-inning errors to walk-off with a 2-1 win on Tuesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Gordon tied his career high with seven innings, allowing just four hits and no walks. The right-hander tallied five strikeouts and controlled the Blue Wahoo lineup throughout the entirety of his start. Atlanta's No. 28 prospect was forced to settle for a no-decision.
Gordon is 2-2 with a 1.63 ERA in 27 2/3 innings over five starts. The right-hander has two quality starts and has allowed more than one earned run in just one start.
After four scoreless innings to start the game, Arden Pabst blasted a solo shot out to left field to put the M-Braves up 1-0 in the fifth.
RHP Eury Perez, Miami's top prospect, went five innings and allowed one run.
Landon Stephens accounted for the lone hit outside of Pabst's homer with a double down the left field line in the fourth inning.
RHP Alec Barger worked around two walks in a scoreless eighth inning to send it to the final inning.
The M-Braves committed three errors on sacrifice bunts and infield groundballs in the final inning. The Blue Wahoos scored two runs on a throwing error by LHP Jake McSteen. The pitcher picked up a grounder off the mound and threw the ball past home plate into foul territory.
The second game of the series is on Wednesday at Blue Wahoos Stadium. RHP Scott Blewett (0-1, 2.45) will make the start for Mississippi against RHP Evan Fitterer (1-0, 0.00) for Pensacola. The first pitch is at 11:05 am CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
The club returns to Trustmark Park for a six-game homestand on May 9-14, against the Chattanooga Lookouts. For tickets, or a full list of upcoming promotions, visit mississippibraves.com.
