Columbia Fireflies News Release
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Fireflies scored three unanswered after the seventh inning stretch to force extra innings prior to falling 4-3 in the 10th to the Augusta GreenJackets Tuesday evening at Segra Park.
Kale Emshoff blasted his first homer of the season to lead-off the ninth inning and tie the game 3-3 between the Columbia Fireflies (11-8) and the Augusta GreenJackets (9-10). The solo shot accounted for the backstop's team-leading 15th RBI of the season.
Walter Pennington (L, 1-1) allowed Stephen Paolini to scamper home from a Ricardo Rodriguez double in the 10th to break the tie. Paolini started the inning placed at second base. In the home half of the 10th, the Fireflies were unable to score on Miguel Pena (W, 3-0, BS, 2) in extras.
Columbia started the scoring in the seventh inning, when Jake Means scored from a wild pitch from Gabriel Rodriguez with a pair of outs to draw Columbia within a pair. They got closer in the eighth. Diego Hernandez led the frame off with a base knock and Tyler Tolbert walked to move him into scoring position. Maikel Garcia came up with one out and was able to bounce one deep in the hole at third to score Hernandez from 90 feet away to make it a single score game.
Columbia continues their series with the Augusta GreenJackets tomorrow at 7:05 pm. Southpaw Emilio Marquez (1-0, 3.00 ERA) gets the nod for the Fireflies and RHP Joey Estes (0-0, 1.50 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Augusta GreenJackets.
The homestand is filled with promotions and starts off with a Miller Lite $2 Tuesday. Fans can purchase hot dogs, popcorn, fountain soda and 12 oz cans of Miller Lite for just $2 at Segra Park all evening long. To purchase tickets, visit FirefliesTickets.com.
