Modesto Nuts News Release
San Jose, CA - Two seventh-inning errors helped send the Modesto Nuts to a 6-2 loss against the San Jose Giants on Saturday night at Excite Ballpark.
Robert Winslow (L, 0-2) took over the game in the sixth inning with the Nuts (19-10) up by a run. The first pitch he threw was turned around for a game-tying home run off the bat of Casey Schmitt.
In the seventh, Winslow walked the first man he faced, Armani Smith followed with a groundball back to the pitcher. Winslow had a chance to turn a double play but made a bad throw to second allowing everyone to reach safely. Ricardo Genoves followed with a go-ahead RBI double. Marco Luciano followed with an RBI single of his own. Later in the inning, Genoves scored from third on a groundball that was mishandled by the Nuts second baseman Justin Lavey. Overall four runs scored in the inning for the Giants (18-11) who have a chance to hand the Nuts their first series loss of the season.
The Nuts had taken an early lead when they recorded back-to-back RBI singles by Albert Rodriguez and Dariel Gomez in the second inning. That was all the Nuts would get against Giants starter Wil Jensen who worked six innings. He allowed six hits, five of them came in the second inning.
Sam Carlson started the game for the Nuts. He worked five innings and allowed just an RBI single in the first inning to Luciano. Carlson only allowed two hits but walked six as he did not have a perfect inning in the game.
The six-game series finale is set for 5:00 pm on Sunday night between the Modesto Nuts and San Jose Giants.
