
Last second shot in overtime propels Stampede

BOISE, Idaho (February 22, 2007) - Tim Barnes came off the bench to score five of his eleven points in the final seconds of the fourth quarter and overtime, as the Idaho Stampede defeated the Tulsa 66ers 127-124 in overtime at Qwest Arena.
"That is the best five points Tim Barnes has ever scored," said Idaho head coach Bryan Gates, referring to Barnes' two last second field goals.
With 4.4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Barnes faked a three point shot, took one dribble and buried a field goal from the right wing to tie the score at 114 apiece. Both teams battled and traded buckets in the overtime period, until Ronell Taylor drove into the lane and kicked the ball out to Barnes for the game winning three with no time left on the clock.
The Stampede controlled the game down low, outscoring Tulsa in the paint 72-32.
Idaho began the first quarter strong, building as much as an eight point lead. Seattle SuperSonics assignee Mouhamed Sene led the first quarter charge with eight points and four rebounds in the period.
Tulsa battled back to tie the game with 9:43 left in the first half on two Mike Hall free throws, but the Stampede on a 13-2 run midway through the second quarter. Idaho ended the half with a 52-44 advantage.
The 66ers continued to hang in the game and took their first lead of the game with 2:31 left in the game at 104-103. Tulsa's lead grew to as much as four points with 19.8 seconds left in the game, but Taylor hit a three pointer to cut the lead to one with 12.8 seconds remaining. After two Denham Brown free throws for Tulsa, Idaho's Ricky Sanchez hit a lay up to cut the lead to one again with 5.4 seconds remaining. Brown hit one of two free throws, giving Tulsa the two points lead, which led to Barnes' game tying shot to put the game into overtime.
Sanchez led six Stampede players with double-figure scoring with 29 points and seven rebounds. Luke Jackson added 23 points and nine assists. Taylor had his second double double in a row with 22 points and 13 assists, while Sene contributed 16 points and seven rebounds.
Desmon Farmer led Tulsa with a game-high 33 points. Along with Farmer, Tulsa had six other players score in double figures, as Brown had 23 points and Will Conroy added 17 points and 11 assists.
Idaho will take a break from play until next Thursday, March 1 when they face the Bakersfield Jam at home. Tulsa returns home to face the Dakota Wizards on Saturday, March 3.
