SOUTHAVEN, Miss.—Fans have one more opportunity to take advantage of the RiverKings unique "Hockey 101" course, being offered in conjunction with the University of Mississippi-DeSoto Center, on March 9 and 12.

The first part of the course, March 9, will include an explanation of basic rules and positioning by several ‘Kings players and Head Coach Mark Richards and an opportunity to ask questions of the professionals.

The second session on March 12 contains a follow-up class at 5:30 p.m., in which hockey penalties will be discussed. It also includes a seat at the ‘Kings game that night, when they take on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. During the game a RiverKings player or staff member will visit the class' section and answer questions about the game during play.

The $10 course is available to any fan interested in learning more about the sport.

"Hockey is a fun sport to watch, even if you know nothing about it," RiverKings Governor Kevin Ryan said. "However, really learning the rules, the calls and the plays adds a whole new dimension to the game. It enriches the ‘enjoyability' of it."

"This course is great for any hockey enthusiast," Community Relations Director Michael Rice said. "Fans of any age or experience level are welcome, whether they are new to the game or have some knowledge and want to learn more. There's nowhere better to learn the basics or the finer points of the game than from the players themselves."

Advance enrollment is encouraged, but registration at the door is allowed. For more information call the RiverKings office at (662) 342-1755.
