Bucks Whitewash Lubbock 2-0

LAREDO, Texas – The Bucks picked up a pair of shorthanded goals and goalie Marco Emond pitched a shutout as the Bucks blanked the Lubbock Cotton Kings 2-0 in front of 6,237 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks won their 27th straight on home ice and improved to 46-7-5 with a CHL best 97 points. The Bucks need three more points to become the second team to reach 100 points in a 64-game season. The Bucks are on the road this weekend on Friday in Memphis, Tulsa on Saturday and Wichita on Sunday. Laredo returns home this Tuesday for an 11 a.m. game against Bossier-Shreveport. Neither team scored in the first period as Lubbock out shot Laredo 10-9.

In the second period the Bucks capitalized quickly. With the Bucks shorthanded forward Jeff Bes feathered a pass into the Lubbock zone that forward Chris Grenville chased down then fired into the net from the bottom of the left circle just 21 seconds into the frame. It was Grenville's CHL leading 45th of the year. Just before the halfway point of the period the Bucks went back to work shorthanded. Laredo killed off a 63 second two man advantage and with the fans in an uproar at the LEC the Bucks struck again. Bes slipped a sweet pass ahead to forward James Hiebert who had a breakaway from the blue line as he lifted the puck top shelf for another shorthanded goal. The goal at 9:02 was Hiebert's 15th and it marked the first time this year Laredo has scored twice shorthanded in one game.

In the third period the Bucks had more than five minutes of consecutive power play time, including three separate two man advantages, but the Cotton Kings and their goalie Jeremy Symington turned in a terrific effort on the penalty kill to stay in the game. Bucks goalie Marco Emond stopped all nine shots he saw in the period to complete his third shutout of the year. FINAL SCORE Laredo 2, Lubbock 0.

Emond turned aside all 24 shots as he posted his second straight shutout on home ice and third overall and improved to 21-3-2. Symington was outstanding as he stopped 36 of 38 shots, but fell to 13-16-7. The Bucks were 0-9 on the power play while Lubbock was 0-6.

BUCKS NOTABLES

* This was the first time this year Laredo has scored multiple shorthanded goals in a game this season. They lead the CHL with 20 shorthanded goals.
