Hickory Crawdads News Release

The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced Major Leaguer Adam LaRoche will join the Hickory Crawdads for a rehab assignment Monday night against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

LaRoche, who is planning to come off the 15-day disabled list with a right intercostal strain (a strain in the right rib cage area), will start at first base for the Crawdads in game one of their eight-game homestand. It has not been determined how long LaRoche will remain with Hickory, but it is expected he will rejoin the Pirates by the end of the week.

In 98 games with the Pirates before injury this season, LaRoche hit .272 with a .340 on-base percentage, including 15 home runs, 52 RBIs and 48 runs scored.

Coming up through the Atlanta Braves organization before his 2007 trade to Pittsburgh, LaRoche made his minor league debut at rookie-class Danville in 2000 and then played in Class-A Advanced Myrtle Beach in 2001. This will be his debut in both the Class A and the South Atlantic League.

Post-game media opportunities will be explained to all present media at L.P. Frans Stadium for all games in which LaRoche appears.
