Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Salisbury, Md.- Taking advantage of a troika of defensive mistakes, the Shorebirds ran away with a 7-1 victory over the RiverDogs on Monday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Delmarva starter Nathan Nery blanked the Dogs over six superb innings, surrendering just four hits and fanning five to pick up his fourth win of the season. The Shorebirds plated a pair of unearned runs in the first few innings off Charleston starter Dellin Betances en route to the triumph.

Delmarva scored at least one run in six different innings as Matt Angle, Paco Figueroa, Tyler Henson, and Victor Castillo all registered multi-hit ballgames. Castillo launched his fourth homer of the season, a towering blast that cleared the secondary wall in left field at Perdue Stadium, in the bottom of the eighth to cap off the Shorebird scoring. Henson's pair of base knocks both went for extra bases (a double and a triple), and the third-baseman also scored twice.

The RiverDogs were able to break up the shutout with a single run in the ninth off righty reliever Robert Neigebauer. Another righty, Brian Parker, served as the bridge from Nery to Neigebauer. Parker whiffed four over two perfect frames for the Shorebirds. Highly-rated prospect Jesus Montero went 2-4 and scored the only run for Charleston as the Dogs dropped their fifth straight game. Betances, Stephen Artz, and Angel Reyes combined to strike out 13 Shorebirds over eight innings, but Delmarva was able to do damage regardless. With the win and the West Virginia loss, the Shorebirds move back within 6.5 games of the first-place Power in the second-half standings.
