ROME, GA - For the fifth consecutive game, the Hagerstown Suns (30-31) ended up on the wrong side of the score, falling 9-6 to the Rome Braves (28-23).

Rome jumped to an early 5-0 lead, scoring three earned runs and two unearned runs off Suns starter Terrence Engles (3-5).

After the Suns pulled even with five runs of their own in the top of the third inning, keyed by a two-run home run from shortstop Jose Lozada, Rome once again took the lead with a run in the bottom of the third.

The Suns battled back with a run in the top of the fourth inning, but once again Rome responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth, chasing Engles from the game.

In the end, Engles took the loss after allowing eight runs, six earned, in four innings of work. Justin Phillabaum pitched well in relief, allowing just one run in three and one third innings out of the bullpen.

Matt Timms (1-1) earned the win in relief for the Braves, after starting pitcher Chad Rodgers allowed five earned runs in two and two thirds innings. Tommy Palica earned his seventh save for Rome, pitching the final one and one third innings.

Second baseman Valerio Heredia had three hits, including two doubles, for Hagerstown, while first baseman Tim Pahuta, centerfielder Mark Gildea and DH Garret Bass each had two hits.

The Suns and Braves will play game two of their four game series at State Mutual Stadium in Rome, GA on Tuesday, August 12th at 7:00 P.M.
