Jackets Turn the Power off with Shutout Win

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 32-17) began an eight game home stand on Monday night against the West Virginia Power (32-37, 34-16) with a 6-0 win. Starter Scott Barnes worked a career high seven innings and Augusta scored all six runs in the fourth inning.

Garrett Baker got the scoring started with a two-run double scoring Andrew Davis and Dayton Buller for a 2-0 lead. Elio Sarmiento followed reaching on an error from shortstop Matt Cline that allowed Baker to score giving Augusta a 3-0 lead.

James Simmons followed with a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, putting Augusta up 5-0. Juan Ciriaco capped off the scoring with a two-out RBI single scoring Nick Noonan.

Barnes (1-1) recorded his first professional win allowing just one hit, two walks and striking out six.

David Mixon worked the final two scoreless innings allowing a pair of singles as Augusta held the leagues top hitting team to just three hits.

The GreenJackets and Power continue their series on Tuesday with Augusta sending left-hander Craig Clark (6-4, 4.12) to the mound. The Power counters with lefty Lucas Luetge (1-1, 3.52). First pitch on Tuesday is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

The GreenJackets improved to 39-21 at home this season, 19-6 in the second half.

The GreenJackets have a 2.0 game lead in the Southern Division.

Nick Noonan extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Baker's two run double snapped an 0-for-13 skid.

Augusta recorded its 13th shutout of the season.
