Washington Mystics News Release
Washington, D.C. - All-Star forward Crystal Langhorne has re-signed with the Washington Mystics, General Manager and Head Coach Trudi Lacey announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract will not be released.
We are absolutely thrilled to have Crystal continue her career with us," stated Lacey. "She has worked very hard and is poised to help bring a WNBA Championship to our organization; with her leadership we look forward to a very bright future."
Langhorne returns to the Mystics after leading the team with 18.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game last season. She was also named to the WNBA All-Star team and finished the season ranked in the top five in the league in points per game (4th), rebounds (6th) and field goal percentage (3rd).
"I am excited to continue my career with the Mystics and to play in front of the best fans in the WNBA," stated Langhorne. "I will continue to work my hardest to help bring a championship to D.C."
The 6'2 Langhorne was originally selected in the first round of the 2008 WNBA draft (6th overall) by the Mystics and played in every game that season. The 2009 season was a breakout one for Langhorne, as she set career highs in virtually all categories including points (12.0 ppg) and rebounds (7.9) per game, was named the WNBA's 2009 Most Improved Player of the Year, and helped the Mystics return to the playoffs. In 2010, Langhorne averaged 16.3 points and a career-high 9.7 rebounds as the team closed out the season with the best record in franchise history (22-10).
A former University of Maryland standout, Langhorne garnered collegiate honors including ACC Player of the year and All-American honors by Sports Illustrated, ESPN.com and CBSsportsline.com as a senior and led the Terrapins to the NCAA Championship in 2006.
The Washington Mystics will tip off the 2012 season on Saturday, May 19 against the Chicago Sky. Season tickets for the 2012 season are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the Mystics Sales Office at 1-877-DC-HOOP1 or by visiting the Mystics web site at www.washingtonmystics.com.
