Omaha Lancers News Release

CHICAGO, IL. - The Lancers reentered Fox Valley Ice Arena this afternoon looking for another two points against the six-seeded eastern conference squad, the Chicago Steel.

The Lancers scored five of their six goals in the second half of the contest last night (3/2) and would be looking to get the scoring going a bit earlier today, but Chicago had other plans.

It only took 62 seconds for the Steel to take a 1-0 lead as Charlie Major sent a shot to the top short-side corner on Goaltender, Lucas Szyszka to give Chicago some early momentum. Chris Able and Michael Hage got in on the assists with some quick feeds throughout the neutral zone.

It took ten minutes for the Steel to strike again. Brady Arneson got behind the Lancers' defense and picked up a stretch pass from Lukas Sawchyn leading to a top-shelf snipe for Arneson's second goal of the year. Putting the Steel up by a pair.

As the period was winding down, it would be Tobias Ohman who would get the Chicago lead to three as he found a lane through a handful of bodies. Sending a low wrist shot by the blocker of Szyszka.

Omaha would then get the jump off the faceoff following that goal and got to work.

Aleksi Kivioja won a board battle while being out numbered below the goal line. But was able to kick the puck to the stick of Ryan Kusler, who sent the puck out front to Jamison Sluys. The winger then sent a quick snap shot over the blocker of Steel Netminder, Louka Cloutier to cut the deficit to two, making it a 3-1 lead for Chicago at the first intermission.

The Lancers would pick up a duo of penalties in the closing minute within the same play, as Sluys got handed a high-sticking call and Kusler was booked for checking from behind.

Omaha was able to kill off the first 34 seconds to send the teams in to the first break, but still had 1:26 left in the penalty kill that would carry into the second frame.

Chicago would go on to score three more goals in the second period off the sticks of Michael Hage and two more goals from Charlie Major for the hat trick. Moving Major to a four point night (3G-1A-4P) through 40 minutes of hockey.

Following the second goal from Charlie Major, making it a 5-1 game, Szyszka was pulled from the net and replaced by Mikhail Yegorov. Who was between the pipes for yesterday's (3/2) 6-2 victory.

Yegorov stopped two out of three shots faced in his 14 minutes of hockey in the second period, sending the game into the second intermission with the Steel up 6-1.

The Lancers would once again out-shoot the Steel in the third period by nearly double with the count being 13-7. However, Cloutier and Yegorov had all the answers for a shutout third frame.

Yegorov would finish the night with a 0.900 save percentage through his 33:55 of play. Giving him a 0.912 save percentage on the weekend.

Cloutier had himself another solid performance between the pipes for Chicago, as last week's USHL Goaltender of the Week stopped 33 of 34 Omaha shots for an impressive 0.971 percentage.

The Lancers will head home for a pair of games with the visiting Green Bay Gamblers. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm CST. on Friday, March 8th at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. That game can be streamed on FloSports and Mixlr.
