Rewind: Recapping Saturday Night's Action in the USHL

Madison 5, USA Hockey NTDP U18s 0

Stellar goaltending from Patriks Berzins helped give Madison a 5-0 win over the USA Hockey U18s Saturday in Plymouth, Mich.

Berzins, a Talsi, Latvia native who is committed to Maine, picked up his second career USHL shutout with 21 saves in backstopping the Capitols to the road win.

Colton Jamieson's first-period goal got the ball rolling offensively for Madison. And a four-goal outburst in the third period help power the Caps to their fourth-straight win. Austin Burnevik got his 32nd and 33rd goals of the season and Diego Johnson and Roman O'Donnell also chipped in.

Madson now stands 22-19-4-2 on the season with the win.

Sioux Falls 6, Fargo 3

Visiting Sioux Falls built a 4-0 lead and never trailed enroute a 6-3 win at Fargo Saturday.

The Stampede, who also downed he tForce 5-2 Friday, scored three times in the first period on goals from J.J. Wiebusch, Kazimier Sobieski and John McNelis. Chase LaPinta scored at 18:32 of the second and after the first 40 minutes, Sioux Falls held a 4-0 advantage.

Mac Swanson's 21st of the year, which came at 1:58 of the third, cut the deficit to three, but the Stampede kept the pressure on and when LaPinta tallied his second of the game at 9:56, it became a 5-1 game. Brandon Svoboda and Masun Fleece had goals for the Force in the final 10 minutes, but those were offset by a Jaksen Panzer tally.

Michael Chambre stopped 38 shots for the Stampede who upped their record to 23-22-4-1 with the win. Fargo, which has now lost two games in a row for the first time this year, stands 39-7-2-0.

Lincoln 3, Tri-City 2

Following a pair of scoreless first and second periods, Lincoln and Tri-City combined to score five goals in the third period and when the smoke cleared, it was the visiting Stars that skated away with a 3-2 win.

Lincoln got the ball rolling when Blake Montgomery scored at 1:05 of the final period of regulation and when Keaton Peters lit the lamp at 4:29 for this 20th goal of the season the Stars led 2-0. Ryan Smith's goal at 5:35 brought Tri-City within one and AJ Lacroix tied it at 10:19. Jared Mangen scored what proved to be the game-winner at 14:29.

Yan Shostak had 27 saves for Lincoln to get the win. Cameron Korpi had 23 stops for Tri-City.

Sioux City 6, Des Moines 5 shootout

Kaden Shahan scored twice and had an assist and Brian Nicholas also had three points on a goal and two assists as Sioux City earned a 6-5 shootout win over Des Moines.

Shahan, who leads the USHL in goals, scored his 33rd goal of the season to open the scoring in the game midway through the opening period. Ashton Dahms replied for Des Moines and at the end of the first it was 1-1.

Giacoma Martino and Shahan had second-period goals for the Musketeers, but Ilya Protas, Dahms and Paul Minnehan scored for Des Moines and after 40 minutes, Des Moines held a 4-3 lead.

Sam Court tied it at 6:14 of the third, but Jack Kernan scored three minutes later as Des Moines regained the lead. Nicholas sent the game into overtime when he scored at 10:17.

Following a scoreless overtime session, Shahan and Finn Loftus scored shootout goals as Sioux City claimed the win and upped its record on the season to 28-16-6-0.

Dubuque 3, Youngstown 0

Kevin Reidler stopped all 25 shots he faced as Dubuque skated to a 3-0 road win at Youngstown Saturday.

Reidler, who's committed to Omaha, now has two shutouts on the season as the Fighting Saints upped their record to 32-10-3-3 with the win.

Recently acquired Beckett Hendrickson got his first goal as a Fighting Saint when he opened the scoring at 0:34 of the first period.

Hendrickson, a University of Minnesota commit, scored his second goal of the game at 18:22 when he tallied into an empty net. Michael Barron closed out the scoring in the game 30 seconds later.

Muskegon 5, Waterloo 2

A hat trick from Joe Connor powered Muskegon to a 5-2 win over Waterloo.

Connor, who also had a four-goal game earlier this year (Jan. 12 in a 7-2 win over Fargo), opened the scoring vs. Waterloo when he tallied on the power play at 10:31 of the opening frame. Ty Henricks scored 30 seconds later and at the end of the second, the Lumberjacks led 2-0.

Connor's second goal came midway through the second period and when he scored his third of the game at 9:29 of the third, Muskegon held a 4-0 lead. Landon Nycz got the Black Hawks on the board at 11:43 and when Myles Hilman tallied at 15:33, Waterloo trailed by two. Matvei Gridin scored an empty netter at 18:55 to close the game out.

Shika Gadzhiev stopped 33 shots for the Lumberjacks who are 7-3-0-0 in their last 10 games.

Omaha 6, Chicago 2

Chris Kocsis scored twice and had an assist in helping lead Omaha to a 6-2 win at Chicago Saturday.

Chris Reininger opened the scoring when he got the host Steel on the board at 8:57 of the first period.

The Lancers scored three times in the second period to take control of the game with Nicholas Sykora, Will Elger and Aleksi Kivioja doing the damage.

Kocsis scored at 2:19 of the third to make it 4-1, but Michael Hage's power play goal at 7:33 pulled Chicago within two. David Deputy and Kocsis responded for the Lancers to close out the win.

Mikhail Yegorov turned aside 22 shots for Omaha, which ended a 15-game losing streak with the win.

Cedar Rapids 4, USA Hockey NTDP U17s 3 shootout

Jack Larrigan's shootout goal helped lift Cedar Rapids to a 4-3 win over USA Hockey NTDP U17s.

A first-period goal from Cedar Rapids defenseman Colin Grable and a second-period marker from U17 forward Will Horcoff made it a 1-1 game after the first 40 minutes of action.

Landon Resendes put the host RoughRiders up by a goal early in the third, but Kristian Epperson knotted it at 6:02. Loa Milfors scored at 6:53 as Cedar Rapids regained the lead, but Conrad Fondrk's tally at 16:13 sent the game into overtime.

After a scoreless overtime session where Cedar Rapids owned a 5-2 shot advantage, Larrigan scored the lone goal of the shootout as the RoughRiders won their third game in their last four outings.
