September 27, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Omaha Lancers News Release

RALSTON, NE - In the first game of their 2013-14 season, the Omaha Lancers started year 28 in the United States Hockey League (USHL) in style, dropping the Fargo Force by a final score of 5-0 on Friday at Ralston Arena. With the win, the Lancers improved to 1-0-0 on the season and with two points, currently sit tied for second in the USHL's Western Conference standings.

In a rollicking first period, the Lancers grabbed hold of the game with three unanswered goals and a suffocating offensive attack. San Diego, California native Brian Williams put the Lancers up 1-0 at 10:07 of the opening frame when he dipped his shoulder deep in the Fargo slot on feeds from Alex Rauter and Ryan Tait and buried a stick-side wrister. Just over three minutes later, a Luca Frigo one-time tapper, set up by a seeing-eye Tait centering feed with Williams picking up the secondary assist, made it 2-0 Omaha. Then, a big one-timer from Louie Rowe from the left circle at 15:07 made it 3-0 with the assists credited to Manlius, New York native Anthony Angello and Lancers captain Tucker Poolman.

In the middle frame, the lone goal came courtesy of Duluth, Minnesota native, future UNO Maverick and Omaha assistant captain Jake Randolph who scorched a rebound laser through Force netminder Cameron Johnson, assisted by fellow UNO commit Tyler Vesel, to extend the Lancers lead to 4-0. Much like the second period, there was only one goal scored in the third, in this case a Gage Hough power-play tally on feeds from Poolman and Vesel to establish the 5-0 final score.

Though not called upon early in Friday's game, Lancers goalie Cole Bruns was stellar in his season-debut performance, stopping all 17 of the Fargo shots put his way in his first shutout of the season, a game in which the Lancers outpaced the Force by 20 shots on net.

Next up for the Lancers, it's a Saturday road tilt in Des Moines, as Omaha hits the road for a 7:05 pm clash with the Buccaneers at Buccaneer Arena.
