February 9, 2011 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Omaha Lancers News Release
The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) conclude a stretch of ten consecutive games against Western Conference competition this week as they prepare for showdowns with the Sioux City Musketeers and Tri-City Storm. Omaha (22-10-5, 49 Pts.) enters Week 20 of USHL action in sole possession of second place in the Western Conference. The Lancers are coming off another solid week, which saw the team capture five of a possible six points during a three-game week that started with a 3-1 home victory over the Sioux Falls Stampede before skating to a 2-1 win in Fargo Friday followed by a 4-3 shootout defeat against the Force on Saturday. Saturday's setback snapped Omaha's season-long six-game winning streak but the Lancers are still 6-0-1 over their last seven games and have claimed 13 of a possible 14 standings points in seven straight games against Conference opponents.
Omaha's Western Conference stretch continues this Friday when the Lancers head to the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City to battle the Musketeers. Sioux City (18-17-4, 40 Pts.) snapped a three-game winless skid last night with a 2-1 overtime victory against the Tri-City Storm in the first of four games this week for the Musketeers. The win was just Sioux City's third in its last 12 games overall and the Musketeers now rest in a tie for sixth place in the West alongside Tri-City.
The Lancers then return home to the Omaha Civic Auditorium Saturday for a special afternoon showdown with the Storm. Following last evening's overtime defeat, Tri-City (16-14-8, 40 Pts.) is locked in a tie for sixth in the Conference with Sioux City and enters the weekend having fallen in five of its last seven games overall. The Storm's offensive struggles continued last week when the team managed just five goals during a three-game week. Tri-City has now scored two goals or fewer in eight of its last nine games overall. With 86 goals scored this season, the Storm have tallied the fewest goals of any Western Conference team and are now averaging the second fewest goals for per game (2.26).
Omaha's busy weekend then concludes Sunday when the Lancers welcome Sioux City to the Civic Auditorium for a 5:05 PM match-up. Sunday's showdown will be the second get-together in three days between the Lancers and Musketeers and will be the final head-to-head regular season meeting at the Civic Auditorium.
