Indiana Ice News Release
Peter Schneider recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Indiana Ice over the Youngstown Phantoms 5-3 at the Covelli Center on Wednesday. Blake Coleman also added two goals for the Ice.
The Indiana Ice (24-12-3) have beat the Phantoms in their last three meetings and are 20-3-1 in the last 24 games.
Youngstown (14-22-4) took an early 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Scott Mayfield at the five-minute mark. Coleman evened the score at 14:20 off a pass from Brian Ferlin.
The Phantoms wasted no time in taking the lead again in the second period when Steven Collins scored for Youngstown at the 1:43 mark. Youngstown widened the gap after a goal by Mike Ambrosia with eight minutes left in the frame.
Down 3-1 with 4:31 left in the second frame, Brian Ferlin fired a shot into the net off a pass from Alex Barron. Schneider tied the score at three with an unassisted goal two minutes later with 2:22 left in the second period.
Even quicker than Youngstown took the lead in the second, Schneider secured a 4-3 lead for Indy off a pass from David Johnstone and Alex Wideman a mere 36 seconds into the final frame. A goal from Coleman with help from Daniil Tarasov and Schneider halfway through the third locked the final score at 5-3.
Goaltender Jon Gillies stopped 22 of 25 shots to notch his eighth-straight win, putting him one win behind former Ice goalie Scott Darling's all-time record of nine. Johnstone is riding a nine-game points streak, earning 14 points (5G, 9A) in the process.
The Ice return home on Friday (2/11) and Saturday (2/12) nights when the Lincoln Stars and Fargo Force head east to the St. Vincent Sports Rink at Pepsi Coliseum. Both games are set to begin at 7 pm.
