Fargo Force News Release
The Fargo Force (3-5-1-1) and the Omaha Lancers (5-4-2-0) were locked in a 1-1 tie until Lancer forward Alex Bump netted one with just over eight minutes remaining in the final frame. Omaha added an empty netter with 30 seconds remaining to take home a 3-1 win in game one of the weekend.
The Force got things rolling with a breakaway goal backhanded goal from forward Kyle Smolen. Fargo dominated the first period shots-on-goal with 14 to Omaha's 5. Both teams spent 4 minutes shorthanded.
The Force held a one goal lead until the 8:01 mark in the second period, when they capitalized on their powerplay. Fargo netminder Anton Castro made some big stops to keep the game locked at 1's heading into the final frame.
After a lot of pressure from the Lancer offense, Omaha took the lead with 8:02 to play. The Lancers kept that pressure on the remainder of the period outshooting the Force 12-3. With just under two minutes remaining the Force pulled their goalie but couldn't make anything happen as the Lancers found the back of the empty net securing a 3-1 win.
The Force are back again tomorrow night vs. Omaha for a 6:05pm puck drop on Girl Scout Night! tickets are available via www.ticketmaster.com.
