
Muskegon Falls 3-2 to Youngstown to Split Weekend Series

MUSKEGON, Mich. - The Muskegon Lumberjacks could not hold on to their third period lead as the Youngstown Phantoms came back to split against the Jacks, winning 3-to-2 in regulation from Mercy Health Arena on Saturday, Nov. 4. Jacob Guevin scored the first goal of the game for Muskegon with an added lamplighter from Jake Braccini, but a Youngstown got goals from Carter Rose and a pair from Ryan Alexander to win the game and split the weekend series.
1st Period
For the third game in a row, the Lumberjacks scored the first goal of the game, courtesy of defenseman Jacob Guevin at 3:42 of the first period. Guevin's second goal of the season was assisted by Jack Williams and Quinn Hutson to give Muskegon the 1-to-0 lead.
But the Phantoms would respond, while also on the power play, with Ryan Alexander at 8:31 of the period. Alexander's seventh goal of the season was assisted by Trey Taylor and Adam Ingram to tie the game 1-to-1 in the opening frame.
After the first period, both teams carried a 1-to-1 tie into the dressing room for the first intermission.
2nd Period
For the first time all weekend, Muskegon lit the lamp in the middle period, this time from Jake Braccini at 17:18 of the period. Braccini's goal was unassisted to put the Lumberjacks in front 2-to-1.
At the conclusion of 40 minutes, the Jacks controlled a 2-to-1 lead into the second intermission.
3rd Period
The Phantoms were able to pull even at 15:45 of the third period, courtesy of Carter Rose. Grant Porter and Justin Varner assisted on Rose's second goal of the season to tie the game 1-to-1.
Youngstown would pull in front for the first time all weekend with Alexander scoring his second goal of the game at 18:03 while his team was on the power play. Alexander's eighth goal of the season was assisted by Taylor and Jaden Grant to give the Phantoms the 3-to-2 lead with just under two minutes left in regulation.
In the end, the Lumberjacks could not pull off the last-second comeback and ultimately fell to the Phantoms by a final score of 3-to-2.
On Deck
The Muskegon Lumberjacks will head to the Windy City for a one-game matchup against the Chicago Steel on Saturday, Nov. 13. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:05 pm EST from Fox Valley Ice Arena.
