Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Two Waterloo Black Hawks scored their first USHL goals, and Jack Williams earned his third shutout of the season in a 3-0 win against the Sioux Falls Stampede Saturday at Denny Sanford Premier Center.
The veteran netminder's best stop came one-on-one against Jack Smith in the second period. Williams made eight saves in both the first and second, then nine more in the third. He also helped Waterloo to a four-for-four night on the penalty kill.
Waterloo put five shots on net in the opening two minutes but didn't take the lead until the last two minutes before intermission. Own Baker split Stampede defenders in the neutral zone and used a low wrister to beat Isak Posch while coming up the slot at 18:57.
After Baker's first USHL goal, Gavin O'Connell achieved the same feat at 6:27 of the second. James Hong was carrying the puck up left wing before slinging a pass across to O'Connell. The recent Minnesota-Duluth commit stickhandled in the slot before slipping his chance past Posch's left skate.
Waterloo added more insurance during a power play at 1:40 of the third. After a four-on-four faceoff, the Hawks came to full strength, and Jake Rozzi jumped onto the ice, cutting through the middle of the Stampede defensive formation. The puck came his way, and as he skated to his right Rozzi passed back to his left, clicking with Baker at the side of the net. From close range, Baker flipped in his second of the game.
Saturday was the first of three consecutive road games for the Hawks, who visit the Tri-City Storm next weekend.
