Omaha Lancers News Release

LINCOLN, NE. - The Lancers were set for battle with the Lincoln Stars tonight. And with the season series locked at four wins apiece, whoever took two points in this one would hold bragging rights until their first meeting of the 2024-25 season.

The Lancers struck first just 6:14 into the period with a short-side wrist shot from Nick Sykora to make it 1-0 in favor of Omaha. But it would only take until the first Lincoln man-advantage to even things up.

Jamison Sluys was booked for slashing at the 7:33 mark of the period and with just 13 seconds left in the power-play, Jack Pechar knocked in his 19th goal of the season off a rebound.

The two teams would be scoreless throughout the final 10:29 of the frame, sending the teams into the locker room locked at one.

The Stars remained in control for the majority of the second period, out shooting the Lancers 15-8 for a grand total of 29-13. However, Omaha Goaltender, Kam Hendrickson and Lincoln's Yan Shostak were perfect. Forcing the game into the final frame tied at one.

The third period brought on a fantastic display of back-and-forth hockey as the Lancers outshot the Stars 11-9. Leading to the game-winning goal from Cam VanSickle at the 11:49 mark of the period for his fifth goal of the season.

Omaha was able to clean things up and go ahead by two after Shostak was pulled for the extra attacker. Nick Pierre fired a back handed shot from the top of his own defensive zone to put the Lancers up 3-1 and capture his 22nd goal of the season.

Hendrickson had another stellar night between the pipes with 40 saves on 41 shots, racking up an impressive 0.976 save percentage on the night.

With tonight's win in Lincoln, the Lancers have won the best-of-nine, season-long series with the Stars by a count of five wins to four. And will hold the bragging rights until the series resets next September.

The Omaha Lancers have their final road game of the season on Friday, April 12th in Tri-City to take on the Storm. Puck drop is set for 7:05PM, and that game can be streamed on Mixlr and FloSports.
