Lancers Acquire Handley From Des Moines

OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) have acquired defensemen Austin Handley in a trade with the Des Moines Buccaneers. Handley, a 6'1", 205 pound defenseman from Clarkston, Michigan, comes to Omaha in exchange for forward Tyler Lapic and a draft pick.

Handley, 19, began the 2009-2010 season at Northern Michigan University before returning to Des Moines for the Buccaneers' last five games prior to the USHL's Holiday break. In limited action in Des Moines this season, Handley registered a goal and an assist along with 25 PIM. Handley had spent each of the last three seasons with the Buccaneers amassing 9 goals, 24 points and 211 PIM from 2006 to 2009.

In exchange, Des Moines will receive first-year USHL forward Tyler Lapic along with a draft pick. Lapic, a 6'1", 185 pound forward from New Prague, Minnesota, tallied a goal and 6 assists in 15 games with the Lancers.

The Omaha Lancers return to action this Thursday evening when they head to Sioux City for their annual New Year's Eve date with the Musketeers. Omaha remains atop both the West Division and USHL standings with an overall record of 21-5-1 and 43 standings points.
