Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Jensen Stars for Denmark

Black Hawks forward Alex Jensen's two weeks away from the team were very productive. A native of Denmark, Jensen played with his countrymen at the Division I World Junior Championships in France and led the tournament in scoring with two goals and seven assists in five games. Having now completed three trips to the annual event, Jensen's career statistics include 16 games, three goals, and nine assists.

Dandy Debut

Forward Mario Puskarich notched four points (a goal and three assists) in his Black Hawks' debut against the Sioux Falls Stampede on December 16th. The productive night helped Waterloo rally from an early deficit for an 8-7 shootout win. Puskarich is now one of five active Hawks with a multi-point USHL debut; Tyler Barnes, Tyler Zepeda, Jamie Hill, and Nick Sorkin each had a goal and an assist in their first USHL games.

Converting an Opportunity

J.T. Brown's penalty shot goal in Des Moines on December 19th was the first for a Black Hawk in more than two seasons. The last Waterloo player to do it was Scott Pavelski on November 3, 2007 in a 2-1 win against the Omaha Lancers at Young Arena.

New Rivals

Waterloo meets the Youngstown Phantoms for the first time ever on Tuesday. In the past decade, first tilts with a new opponent have favored the Hawks slightly. Waterloo is 5-3-1 since 2000 when playing a new club for the first time. However, when those games are on the road, the Hawks are just 1-2-1. Last season, Waterloo defeated the Fargo Force 5-2 at Young Arena on November 15th in the first game between the franchises.
