Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - Lamar Sparks smashed his first home run in the Brewers organization, but four late runs from the Montgomery Biscuits (21-20) gave them a 7-3 win over the Biloxi Shuckers (21-20) at MGM Park on Wednesday night.
Shuckers starter Justin Jarvis and Biscuits starter Mason Montgomery both tallied perfect first innings, but the Biscuits struck first in the second. After a leadoff double from Blake Hunt, Matthew Dyer drove him in on a single to give Montgomery a 1-0 lead. Next inning, Hunt drove in two with a double to left that made it 3-0.
Sparks, however, launched the Shuckers onto the scoreboard in the fourth with his first home run of the year after 18 in 2022 with the Missoula Paddleheads of the independent Pioneer League. His three-run shot scored Jeferson Quero and Freddy Zamora, who both reached on walks.
In the sixth, Robbie Baker relieved Jarvis and retired six of the seven batters he faced. The appearance extended his scoreless streak to 8.2 innings, a season-high.
Montgomery broke the game open in the eighth against Cam Robinson by sending nine men to the plate. They took the lead on a bases-loaded two-RBI single from Evan Edwards and extended the lead to 6-3 on a bases-loaded walk by Ronny Simon. They tallied another in the ninth off an RBI single from Logan Driscoll that made it 7-3.
Chris Gau retired the Shuckers in order in the ninth to complete the win. Patrick Wicklander (1-0) earned the win after 3.2 scoreless relief innings in his Double-A debut. Robinson (0-1) took the loss for Biloxi.
The two are set to meet on Thursday night at MGM Park with first pitch scheduled for 6:35. Tobias Myers is set to make his ninth start of the year for Biloxi. It's also Thirsty Thursday presented by Yuengling, Coca-Cola and Kicker108. Fans can enjoy $2 Yuengling drafts, hot dogs and sodas with $4 draft beer specials on Miller Lite.
