Lalli Named to Postseason All-Star Team

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Smokies infielder Blake Lalli was named today by the Southern League to the Southern League Postseason All-Star Team. Lalli was one of 15 Southern League players given the award, which is voted upon by the league's field managers, radio broadcasters and print media.

Lalli has enjoyed a breakout season, his first full one in Double-A. His .313 average leads the Smokies and ranks third in the Southern League. He ranks second among current Smokies players with a .366 on-base percentage and third with a .787 OPS. Lalli's also hit five home runs on the year and drove in 51 runs. Earlier this season, he was named a starter to the Southern League's All-Star team, representing the North Division at Regions Park in Birmingham, Ala.

Lalli was signed by the Chicago Cubs as a non-drafted free agent out of Gardner-Webb University in May 2006. He is currently in his fourth season in the Cubs' minor league system, including all or a portion of the past two with the Smokies.
