Jackson Generals News Release
PEARL, MISS. (AUGUST 31, 2009) - The Diamond Jaxx (34-30) drop game four of the series with Mississippi (32-30), 2-1 on Monday night at Trustmark Park. The Braves take the series and have a 13-12 season series lead. Braves starter, Ryne Reynosso (7-9) allowed just one run on two hits through seven innings on Monday night and earned the win. Lee Hyde and Craig Kimbrel (S, 6) combined to strike out four and deal hitless relief behind Reynosso. The Braves were led by Travis Jones, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Willie Cabrera hit the game winning homerun in the sixth inning for the Braves. The Jaxx remain in a first place tie with the Tennessee Smokies atop the Southern League North.
M-Braves DH, Travis Jones smacked an RBI double over Johan Limonta's head in left field socring Benji Johnson from first base. The 19th double of the season by Jones gave the Braves the early 1-0 against Steve Bray. Jones finished with two doubles and 20 now on the season.
In the top of the fourth, Carlos Triunfel brought home Matt Mangini from second base with a single, tying the game at 1-1. The hit by Triunfel was his first since April 10th as Triunfel broke his left fibula and had two surgeries to repair it. Triunfel returned from the DL on Monday.
Willie Cabrera deposited his fourth homer of the season over the left field boards in the bottom of the sixth inning, putting the Braves back on top, 2-1. The homer by Cabrera was the first Bray had given up since August 4th. After the sixth, the Braves led 2-1.
Jaxx starter, Steve Bray left the game after the sixth inning and allowed two runs on six hits in his six innings. Bray struck out two and walked two in the outing. Steve has worked 28 innings against the Braves this season and allowed just two runs. Kyle Parker worked two scoreless innings for the Jaxx in relief on Monday. The converted starter made his fourth relief appearance of the season and surrendered just two hits.
The Jaxx and Braves will meet one final time on Tuesday night during this 2009 regular season. LHP Nick Hill (5-5, 2.98) will make the start for the D-Jaxx and LHP Edgar Osuna (3-3, 4.26) makes the start for the M-Braves.
