Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws made it 3 wins in a row with a 3-1 win over the Hagerstown Suns on Monday evening. Lakewood was out hit 8-5 in the ballgame, but they made those 5 count in scoring 3 runs. They also played some good defense behind their starters en route to their 3rd consecutive victory.

Ervis Manzanillo got the win throwing 5 2/3rd innings of shutout ball. He allowed just 4 hits, but walked 4 while striking out 6 in the shutout. He improved his record to 4-3 with a 4.91 ERA. Colby Shreve, Tyler Knigge, and Juan Sosa pitched the final 3 1/3rd innings with Sosa pitching a 1-2-3 9th inning and collecting his 7th save of the season.

Offensively Lakewood was limited by some very good Hagerstown pitching. They had 5 hits as a team, and all 5 of them came from the 1-4 batters in the lineup. Leadoff man Alan Schoenberger and the #2 hitter Geancarlo Mendez were each 1-4, Zach Collier was 2-2 with 2 walks, and cleanup hitter Jim Murphy was 1-4 as well. Collier had an RBI double to make it 1-0, also stole a base, and scored a run as he continues to play well for the BlueClaws. Murphy drove in the 2nd run of the game with an RBI double that scored Collier, and scored the 3rd run himself on a wild pitch.

Tuesday the same 2 clubs will face off for game 3 of their 4 game series with two lefties on the mound. LHP Jesse Biddle (3-6, 4.13 ERA) gets the start for Lakewood, and LHP Sammy Solis (1-0, 3.86 ERA) gets the ball for Hagerstown. 7:05 pm First Pitch on Tuesday.
