KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 13, 2011) -- Starting pitcher Spencer Arroyo kept the Delmarva Shorebirds off the scoreboard for seven innings as the Kannapolis Intimidators offense built up a lead en route to a 6-2 win on Monday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Arroyo (4-4) earned the win with a career-long 7 2/3 innings pitched, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

For the second straight night, Kannapolis started the scoring with two outs in the first inning. With Brady Shoemaker on second base, Dan Black singled him home. Juan Silverio popped a ball into right field that Shorebirds second baseman Mychal Givens couldn't corral on a diving catch, resulting in an RBI-triple for Silverio and an early 2-0 lead.

Miguel Gonzalez started the second inning with a single and advanced to second base on an errant throw and scored two batters later when Shorebird's shortstop Manny Machado's throw home was dropped by the catcher. Brady Shoemaker added a two-run home run (9) later in the inning for a 5-0 lead after two innings.

Delmarva starter Luis Noel (4-6) allowed five runs (two earned) on nine hits in five innings of work in a losing effort.

The Shorebirds added two runs in the top of the eighth before Phil Negus came in to finish the inning. Negus earned his second save of the season with 1 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two hits and striking out a batter.

In the bottom of the eighth, Black led off an inning with a home run (10) for the fourth time this season, stretching the Kannapolis lead to 6-2.

The Intimidators continue their four-game series against the Shorebirds on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. RHP Dexter Carter (1-2, 6.08 ERA) will start for Kannapolis against Delmarva's LHP Jarret Martin (2-3, 5.65 ERA).
