Intimidators Power Past Shorebirds 6-2

Kannapolis, N.C. - Kannapolis starter Spencer Arroyo tossed a career best 7.2 innings as the Intimidators (34-28) defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds (32-31) 6-2 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Monday night. The Intimidators have hit four home runs in the first two games of the series and have outscored the 'Birds 18-2.

Kannapolis jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Brady Shoemaker reached first on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a balk by Shorebirds starter Luis Noel. Then, Dan Black hit a flare single into right-center to give Kannapolis a 1-0 lead. Then, Juan Silverio hit a pop up into shallow right-center field that deflected off the glove of the diving Mychal Givens to score Black from first.

Kannapolis added three more runs in the second inning to build a 5-0 lead. Miguel Gonzalez reached on a throwing error by Michael Rooney at third. He then scored a error by Michael Ohlman, who dropped a throw to the plate by Manny Machado. Later in the inning, Brady Shoemaker hit a two-run homer to right-center field.

The Shorebirds went scoreless over the first seven innings before scoring twice in the eighth. Mikey Planeta reached on a tapper to the right of the mound. Then, Rooney hit a soft liner down the right field line to advance Planeta to third. Machado followed with an RBI groundout to third. With Rooney at third, Kannapolis catcher Miguel Gonzalez fired high to first on a pickoff attempt to score the second run.

Dan Black hit a leadoff homer over the left field wall in the eighth off reliever Cameron Roth to extend the lead to 6-2.

Kannapolis starter Spencer Arroyo earned the win over a career high 7.2 innings. He scattered just four hits and one earned run. Shorebirds starter Luis Noel was pinned with the loss in five innings. He allowed nine hits and two earned runs.

Shorebirds reliever Randy Henry tossed two flawless innings. He retired all six batters faced.

The Shorebirds and Intimidators will play game three of the series on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Scott Copeland is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
