Laker Homers as Bisons Tie Richmond, 2-2

Catcher Tim Laker homered in his first Spring game with the Buffalo Bisons as the Herd tied the Richmond Braves, 2-2, this afternoon from Winter Haven, Florida. The Bisons (7-1-3) will conclude their 2006 exhibition schedule Saturday with a 1:05 p.m. game against the Toledo Mud Hens from Winter Haven, Florida.

Laker, 36, has returned to the Bisons after spending four seasons in the Indians organization from 2001-2004. In 2001, the catcher hit 20 home runs and drove in 57 in just 86 games with the Herd. He returned in 2002 after a serious off-season illness to win the Bisons Most Inspirational Player. That season, he hit .227 with four home runs and 28 RBI in 62 games.

Jeremy Sowers started on the mound for the Bisons on Friday and allowed just one run on five hits in five innings of work. Felix Heredia, Andrew Brown and Ben Howard all threw an inning of scoreless relief.

The Bisons open up the 2006 season on Thursday, April 6 in Richmond against the Braves. The Herd's Home Opener is just 14 days away: Friday, April 14 at 6:05 p.m. against the Columbus Clippers.
