Jamestown Jammers News Release

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Jamestown offense struggled for the third straight night as the Vermont Lake Monsters trimmed the Jammers, 2-1, Monday night at Centennial Field.

The Jammers were held to just three hits, but, despite the loss, Jamestown remains in a tie for first place at 21-17 with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

The Jammers got on the board first in the top of the third inning thanks to a series of Vermont miscues. Marquise Cooper started the frame with a walk then advanced to second on a passed ball and third on a wild pitch. After Ryan Goetz walked, Pedro Mendoza bounced into a double play to score Cooper.

The advantage was short lived as Vermont answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Jordan Tripp doubled and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Diomedes Lopez, who reached on a fielding error by Jobduan Morales. Michael Fabiaschi lined a single to center to score the tying run, but Helpi Reyes worked out of the jam and kept the Lake Monsters from doing any further damage.

In the fifth inning, Vermont took advantage of a pair of Jamestown miscues. Lopez reached on a walk. He then moved to second on a wild pitch and third on a sacrifice bunt. Reyes got a ground out to get the second out, but another wild pitch allowed the go-ahead run to score.

The best chance for the Jammers to tie the game came in the eighth inning when Marquise Cooper bounced one into left field for a single before Ryan Goetz moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt; however, Cooper was picked off of second base to end the best opportunity the Jammers had to get back into the game.

Reyes was the hard luck loser for the Jammers. He went five, gave up three hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts. Chase Wier and Frankie Reed combine to throw three scoreless frames in relief.

T.J. Walz earned the win for the Lake Monsters after surrendering just one hit and fanning four in three innings of relief work to improve to 4-0. Tanner Peters pitched a perfect ninth to earn his seventh save.

The Jammers will have Tuesday off before hosting the Aberdeen Ironbirds at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
