Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers squandered a 2-0 lead and fell 4-3 to the Williamsport Crosscutters on Monday afternoon at Dodd Stadium.

The Tigers got a run in each of the first two innings to jump on top early. Dean Green doubled in Jason King in the first inning and Patrick Leyland drove in Javier Azcona in the second to give Connecticut a 2-0 lead.

The game remained at that score until the eighth inning when Jeff Barfield came out of the bullpen for the Tigers. Kyrell Hudson started off the rally with a triple, followed by a Kelly Dugan two-run homerun to tie the game at two.

Brock Stassi then got an infield base hit and was doubled in by Maikel Franco to give the Crosscutters their first lead of the game.

They would add an insurance run on a Cody Asche RBI double to go up 4-2.

The Tigers made a run in the ninth, but fell short. Green started off the frame with a base hit to left, while Tyler Collins knocked a single to right to put runners on first and second. After Azcona popped out and Samir Rijo grounded into a fielder's choice, Leyland singled up the middle to score Green and bring Connecticut within one. However, with runners on first and second Matt Perry struck out to end the game.

In his professional debut Tommy Collier went five shutout innings, giving up just two hits and striking out five. Barfield dropped to 1-1 after the loss, while Lino Martinez improved to 4-2 with the win.

The Tigers will head back out on the road for a three-game series with the Brooklyn Cyclones beginning on Wednesday, following a league-wide off day tomorrow. First pitch for Wednesday is set for 7:00 PM.
